In this position, you'll play a pivotal role in setting a course for the design of the George Fox University website. We're looking for a strong designer who will bring a unique vision for the George Fox University website, yet will still be able to match the brand's new look and feel that has already begun rolling out on the website. You have high standards and want to get it right for every user on every device every time.

Design ability is more important for this position than coding experience; we're not looking for just a developer or a programmer. We're willing to train an excellent designer with limited skills in HTML and CSS on how to build their design for the web if they're willing to learn.

We're looking for a thick-skinned creative who can take constructive feedback from teammates, working together to create an end product that is better than what any individual team member could create on their own.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conceptualize creative ideas for web design to determine visual branding for the university online.
• Design and build web pages that help people fall in love and stay in love with George Fox University. Follow industry best practices and George Fox brand guidelines to ensure the university's web properties are on-brand, user-friendly on all device types, accessible, and fast-loading.
• Be a Christian role model to students by actions, words, and lifestyle, whether through casual contact or in giving feedback to student interns.
• Keep up with and implement new technologies and design trends to keep the website at the forefront of web design.
• Design assets to promote the university through other digital channels, such as social media, email, and online advertising.
• Represent the diversity of the university community through photo selection for designs
• Conduct necessary duties to the website in the director's absence, such as granting permissions or approving web pages.
• Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect, and customer service.
• Demonstrate awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and work well with a variety of people.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a visual design field or other combination of relevant education and experience.
• Ability to design and develop new creative concepts that match existing brand guidelines and styles.
• Some experience designing web pages for different screen sizes, even if experience in building pages in HTML and CSS is limited.
• Some experience in building web pages by writing HTML and CSS preferred, including knowledge of responsive design.
• Experience using photo editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop.
• Experience using prototyping tools preferred, such as Adobe XD.
• Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with the university's Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and an ongoing lifestyle consistent with the same.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, and to understand and follow instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member to accomplish organizational and unit goals, including giving and receiving design feedback.
• Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple priorities under deadlines and a close attention to detail.
• History of taking the initiative to propose new ideas, such as new design trends or technologies to adopt.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly.
