Undergraduate Admissions Counselor

Job Purpose:

George Fox University's highly successful Undergraduate Admissions Team is looking for a credible and goal oriented person to serve as an Undergraduate Admissions counselor to our transfer student population. As the primary contact for prospective students, admissions counselors must understand and be able to clearly communicate the value of a George Fox education. This person should be detailed and flexible, able to handle many things at once while maintaining a high level of accuracy and a positive attitude. In our collaborative environment, the ideal candidate will be able to contribute to all aspects of the admissions process with creative and strategic ideas and a willingness to step in and do anything necessary for prospective students to experience the Be Known promise.

Above all else, an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor must value the formative experience that comes from a George Fox education, and, by words and example, be able to clearly communicate this in order to compel students to join George Fox University.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Effectively communicate why George Fox is the Christian university of choice.
• Deliver the "Be Known" promise to students and families by maintaining a "student's first" focus through the recruitment process.
• Develop and implement student recruitment strategies for assigned geographic areas and our transfer student group, including presentations and communications strategies.
• Effectively manage all details pertaining to recruitment data and strategies, including responsibility to manage and meet yearly goals.
• Liaise with academic departments and our Registrar to determine credit transferability and to help build graduation pathways and agreements with other colleges.
• Travel as a GFU representative for approximately three weeks annually to manage assigned area and/or provide support to other counselors; participating in college fairs, visiting schools and meeting with students and their families.
• Review applications and evaluate students for admissibility.
• Contribute to discussions and successfully execute department wide financial aid strategies.
• Contribute in meaningful ways to the university's continuing commitment to ethnic and gender diversity.
• Supervise at least one part-time student intern.
• In a spirit of teamwork, collaborate and contribute with others, including the Admissions staff, employees, students and the public.
• By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required

• Previous admission/marketing experienced preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills required.

• High level of initiative, motivation, and attention to detail to work in a goal-oriented environment.

• Ability, willingness and availability to travel, including by car and airplane. Must have a valid Oregon driver license.

• Commitment to issues of ethnic and gender diversity and the ability to speak to changing demographics in the country and the effect it has on the recruitment of students. Fluency in Spanish preferred.

• Ability to lift and transport materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

• An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Statement of Community Responsibilities.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
