Strategic Finance Business Partner

Job Purpose 

This position will partner with the CFO as well as other areas of the University to make key assumptions and decisions to optimize financial performance.  It will create business cases for growth opportunities and conduct analysis on topics that drive key decision making such as analyzing new revenue streams, benchmarking services, evaluating capital structures, supporting build versus buy analysis etc. Partnering with cross-functional teams throughout the University in support of continuous improvement, seeking efficiencies and process improvements.   

Business and Financial Analysis (40%)

  • Provide analytical, quantitative, and financial cost modeling assistance in support of the University's objectives.
  • Analyze business concepts, new business models and develop financial models and present findings to CFO in a timely manner
  • Provide support for annual budgeting and forecasting processes as needed.
  • Project Management- Develops and supports a strategic alliance with business leaders. Participates in cross-functional activities focused on solving business issues and enhancing our competitive advantage.
  • Design meaningful dashboards for the leadership team.
  • Support the development of Auditing programs and administration.
  • Assists in the development of enterprise and business unit strategic plans. Works on cross-enterprise initiatives as assigned. Responsible for providing analysis, guidance and direction within areas of expertise; and developing relationships with cross-functional team members as required in support of initiatives.
  • Support Data Analytics as required.

Continuous Improvement (30%)

  • Champion training and adoption of continuous improvement concepts throughout the organization.
  • Partner with business leaders to drive targeted and sustainable improvements tied to strategy and University objectives.
  • Collaboratively develop, facilitate and sustain Continuous Improvement programs
  • Develop and track metrics related to improvement activities.
  • Work with key stakeholders to design and develop best practices and processes that utilize resources across the organization.
  • In partnership with the Senior Leadership, define prioritized process improvement initiatives complete with action plans, resource models, project milestones and success metrics
  • Establish and maintain progress reviews
  • Effectively work cross functionally across all departments

Risk Management (30%)

Contract Review & Insurance:

  • Lead the critical tasks of managing, administering, and maintaining commercial agreements and insurance for the University.
  • Independently review Agreements for appropriate language including Master Services Agreements.
  • Refer all nonstandard agreements to be reviewed by the general counsel.

Cash Management Function:

  • Prepares or reviews cash flow reports, and identifies and evaluates variances.
  • Works with other University departments to accurately forecast timing and amount of future cash flows over the next two years.
  • Supervise one accounting specialist that manages daily deposits, cash forecasts, ZBA accounts, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, accounting, finance or computer science.
  • 6-9 years of progressive finance business partnering experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial business modeling, forecasting and analytics for decision support.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal accounting controls and/or fund accounting.
  • Able to effectively communicate with all departments and levels of associates through both verbal and written methods
  • Challenge conventional thinking. Possess critical thinking skills, using logic to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
  • Working knowledge of Hyperion or other reporting software required.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies that support objectives.
  • Familiarity with bank cash management systems would be a plus.
  • Familiarity with contract management would be a plus.
  • PeopleSoft would be a plus.
