Software Engineer

Purpose:

As a Software Engineer you will contribute to this work by using your software development skills to create high quality software applications to support university constituents. You will work closely with both Institutional Technology staff and business users across the institution to help university operations run effectively and efficiently.

What you will do each day:

1. Design, write and test custom stand-alone software applications including web applications and command line utilities.
2. Design, write and test custom software applications within and in support of university administrative software systems.
3. Work with others on the Enterprise Software teams to develop internal standards and best practices for software development.
4. Work with end-users from administrative offices to understand specific design and implementation needs for custom software.
5. Contribute your ideas to identify potential areas for automation.
6. Stay up-to-date on software development trends and tools

What you bring:

1. A combination of education and experience that prepares you to successfully write, test and deploy production-level code
2. Proficiency in Python and SQL
3. Ability to work independently
4. Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
5. Ability to think critically and challenge conventional thinking
6. Understanding of the importance of well-commented code
7. Able to effectively communicate with others through both verbal and written methods
