Program Coordinator of the Kern Scholars Program

SUMMARY:

The Program Coordinators will support the Director of the Kern Scholars Program in specified roles in launching and administering the university BA/MA accelerated pastoral preparation degree program in coordination with the College of Christian Studies and Portland Seminary. The Program Coordinators will particularly work in the aspect of external relations with church communities with the purpose of recruitment for the accelerated program and Theologia, the high school theology institute, and on-going mentorship with Kern students.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In the areas of recruitment:

  • Executing the wider recruitment plan for the accelerated Kern program and Theologia, working closely with both program directors.
  • Sustain an ongoing positive working relationship with the admissions department and doing personal recruitment on specific sites as needed;
  • Work with the marketing department to create/maintain accurate and appealing program marketing materials including but not limited to social media, paper materials, and website content.

In the areas on church relations:

  • Build relationships, exposure, excitement, and strategic support for the program with youth congregations.
  • Develop and/or maintain relationships with pastors or a network of pastors (for recruitment, mentoring, internships, placement after graduation, special talks and/or luncheons with program participants, etc.).

In the areas of mentorship and discipleship:

  • Direct mentoring and formation for all program students: design mentoring and formation plans; vet, recruit and train mentors (pastors and/or professors), or alternately oversee these processes for program students if they are performed by another institutional department.
  • Work with the seminary masters team to design effective transition to local or online masters seminary programs.
  • Coordinate regular cohort activities (social, formational, informational); at minimum monthly.
  • Manage student internship placements: perform vetting, recruiting, training and evaluating (student of internship site and vica versa) of internship sites and experiences.
  • Work with seminary masters team to assist students in post-graduation job placement, or alternately oversee the process for program students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passionate about forming future pastors Winsome, caring, approachable personality
  • Strong leadership and team building skills as well as a growth mindset Excellent human relations skills: relates well to students, parents, administration, pastors Able to forge and nurture relationships with institution's senior leadership and other departments Able to build sustainable peer-led cohort communities, and delegate and oversee the leadership and replication of the groups.
  • 2+ years of experience and success in youth ministry
  • Preference for seminary graduates or current students
