Limited Maintenance Electrician

Purpose:

Perform work that falls under the scope of a Limited Maintenance Electrical license; maintain, repair and replace electrical installations for GFU.

Includes but is not limited to lighting, lighting retrofits, motors and general maintenance. Assists the Mechanical Systems department with electrical installations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, repair and replacement of electrical installations on campus.
  • Maintain electrical wiring, switches, receptacles, light fixtures, bulbs, ballasts and other items related to existing electrical installations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, motors and electrical controls.
  • Apply current NEC and OESC regulations to all work performed.
  • Perform lighting retrofit and repair.
  • Work independently or alongside Journeymen, LMEs, JLEs, apprentices and college students to perform work in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Assist other departments with installations requiring electricity or an LME.
  • Maintain orderly documentation and records for all maintenance and repair work.
  • Work with sub-contractors during projects or services as needed.
  • Perform and complete tasks as requested in a professional and timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students and others, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role; demonstrating punctuality, dependability, initiative, flexibility, attention to detail and being responsive to instruction.

Associated Duties:

  • Adhere to strict Lockout Tag Out regulations, OSHA regulations and required PPE (personal protective equipment) to perform work safely.
  • Adhere to a "no live work" policy (work will not be performed on live circuits), unless deemed necessary by the supervisor for troubleshooting purposes. Live work may be performed with proper safety measures, PPE, and a signed hot work permit. All LME work shall be under 600V.
  • Attend state mandated continuing education classes to maintain LME license and to stay up-to-date with current electrical code changes.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Possess a current Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license.
  • Five or more years of experience in commercial and residential electrical installation and repair.
  • Knowledge of and ability to accurately apply National Electrical Code standards and regulations.
  • First Aid/CPR certified or willing to get certification upon hire (class provided).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 50 pounds numerous times throughout the day.
  • Ability to bend, rotate, kneel, work on back and work overhead on a ladder, and easily manage rough terrain or stairs.
  • Willing to work non-standard work hours to have access to areas that are inaccessible during normal operation hours of the university (e.g. working 5:00am to 1:30pm) or to work on a weekend to support university functions (schedule to be planned in advance).
  • Have an evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Statement of Community Responsibilities.
  • Work well with a variety of people, demonstrating an awareness and respect for diversity of culture, background, race, gender, political view or expression of faith while maintaining a positive attitude and having an appreciation for a workplace that embraces this stance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow electrical blueprints, diagrams and instruction.
  • Ability to think critically and work through problems in a practical manner, and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to or willingness to learn how to use current technology and devices such as computers and iPads to complete paperwork, timecards and all other necessary procedures.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be insurable.
  • Technicians who live within the city limits of Newberg and Dundee may be required to come to campus during emergency situations to aid the university and its occupants, if they are safely able to travel (e.g. snow, storm conditions, icy roads).
