Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Group Fitness Coordinator, the Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for teaching fitness classes at GFU's Hadlock Student Center (HSC).

Specific Duties/Expectations of the Position:

  • Teach scheduled classes in a professional and timely manner (beginning and ending on time) with an adequate focus on warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
  • Prepare appropriate equipment, music and handouts for each class.
  • In collaboration with the Group Fitness Coordinator, schedule classes and reserve rooms.
  • Oversee the set-up and clean-up of each fitness class/event including moving equipment to/from the fitness classrooms.
  • Address guest concerns; tactfully enforce facility policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of all guests; remedy all unsafe practices or conditions immediately.
  • Maintain a positive, cooperative, and customer service oriented attitude that enhances a fun work environment.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.

 

Requirements of the Position (minimum):

  • Certified Instructor (ACE, AFAA) or equivalent. Additional specialty certifications/training (Spin, HIIT, Zumba, Yoga, etc) preferred
  • Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED (adult) certification is required.  Certification must remain current during the entire term of employment. 
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of dependability, initiative, and integrity. 

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to: climbing, stooping, walking, working in confined space, lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying loads. 
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Agree to refrain from reading, studying, use of non-work-related electronic devices during working hours.
