Groundskeeper II

POSITION OVERVIEW: Assists in maintaining George Fox University grounds, ensuring a safe and aesthetically attractive campus.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Maintain natural turf and synthetic athletic fields, track and field infrastructure, tennis courts, and landscaped areas around athletic areas and others.
  • Perform various landscape maintenance duties including but not limited to edging, mowing, weeding,

pressure washing, pruning, pesticide application, irrigation repair and seasonal ice and snow removal.

  • Assist in the installation of new lawn and plant bed areas; create swales and contours.
  • Repair and install irrigation systems.
  • Successfully supervise student employees, temporary laborers, and community service workers.
  • Safely operate and maintain various landscaping equipment.
  • Must be available to work weekends and non-routine hours when required.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal advisory role.
  • Other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to various outside working and weather conditions, including inclement weather, on a regular basis.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years minimum experience in landscape maintenance role.
  • Possess a current ODA public applicators license, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be able to frequently lift loads of up to 60 pounds, stand and/or stoop for extended periods of time, and traverse campus grounds for up to two hours while navigating rough terrain, slopes, and stairs in all types of weather.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction and respond positively to emergency situations.
  • Ability to use computer programs normally used.
  • Successful supervisory skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with various departments.
  • Willing to pursue job-related education, classes, and on the job training.
