Director of Student Life Operations

Purpose for the Position:

The Director of Student Life Operations is responsible for the oversight of cross-departmental initiatives, internal policy auditing, system workflow curation, data mining/sharing, university housing and management of contracts with auxiliary services. The Director will aid the Vice President in implementing the strategic direction for Student Life as well as through activating various projects by building and leading project teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and oversight of the assistant director of university housing and operations, student care and student life operations specialist as well as the main student life office space and student employee culture.
  • Lead forecasting efforts and operational strategies for housing, food service, and other units as assigned within Student Life (including managing assigned contracts).
  • Assist with Student Life retention planning involving data mining and student care communication and coordination.
  • Develop and implement branding strategy for presentations, media, video, and spaces within Student Life.
  • Lead as the main Student Life contact for other university-wide department needs and committee work. Examples of departments include: George Fox Digital, Admissions, Enterprise Data Science, Events, IT, MarCom, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and Plant Services.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Life departments to ensure efficient and effective system implementation (technology and student-related KPIs).
  • Serve as the Student Life point person for various larger university initiatives: Welcome Weekend, Student Success, Graduation, etc.
  • Assist the VPSL in strategizing and building professional development opportunities for the Student Life division and leading cross-functional teams on assigned projects.
  • Ensure student policy and protocol coordination.
  • Work collaboratively as facilities consultant providing leadership for Student Life related non-capital and capital building projects ensuring that department and student spaces are safe, aesthetically pleasing, mission-oriented and within budget.

Associated Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the VPSL with departmental budget strategies.
  • Assist with crisis leadership, preparation, planning, and response.
  • Work with the director of residence life to manage professional staff housing and to understand residential housing improvements.
  • Work with the director of the Covid Operations Team to implement appropriate procedures and response to Covid-19.
  • Lead the student furniture rotation plan purchasing, processing and budget.
  • Mitigate higher level parent and student concerns.
  • Serve on university committees as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrates awareness, respect and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree in business, student development, or other related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to build networks.
  • Excellent business acumen and project management skills.
  • Passion for improving service delivery for students.
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills and experience. Strong organizational, planning and problem-solving skills with good detail orientation.
