Director of Residence Life

Purpose for the Position:

The Director of Residence Life provides strategic direction and oversight of the entire residence life program including intentional efforts to enhance student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership for the vision and programming for the Residence Life department. This includes the recruitment, hiring, training, and development of all professional staff, including the associate director of residence life, area coordinators, administrative support, as well as all student staff.
  • Collaborates with the dean of students and associate dean of students to facilitate the community accountability process as it relates to the lifestyle standards and community policies, including the implementation, investigation, adjudication, and hearing of incidents.
  • Serves as a lead investigator in undergraduate student incidents involving Title IX, sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment.
  • Provide direct oversight for a student team of an Assistant Area Coordinator (AAC) and Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Collaborate with dean of students and associate dean of students to provide intervention, support, and response to student emergencies.

Associated Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with associate dean of students and director of university housing to develop and implement appropriate policies and procedures in regards to Covid-19.
  • Develop annual budget strategies for the Residence Life department.
  • Serve on university committees as appropriate, such as the Student Support Network (SSN).
  • Collaborate with the associate dean of students to develop relationships with city agencies (Police department, Fire department, school district, etc.).
  • Develop intentional relationships to support other departments and enhance the student experience (Spiritual Life, Campus Public Safety, HCC, Intercultural Life, IDEA center, Athletics, Honors program).
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrates awareness, respect and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people. 9. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • This is an on-campus, live-in position.
  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related field required.
  • 3-5 years in residence life or a related field required.
  • Strong mediation and confrontation skills and experience.
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills and experience. Strong organizational, planning and problem-solving skills with good detail orientation.
  • Previous successful budget management experience preferred.
  • Commitment to an inclusive environment that values diversity, engages global concerns and connects culturally.
  • An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and being in living agreement with same.
