Director of Learning Design

Position Purpose

The Director of Learning Design for George Fox Digital is the primary imaginer of George Fox's online student learning experience. Working alongside the Associate Provost, the Director of Learning Design supports faculty and staff in service to students by ensuring creative development and regular improvement to the user experience in virtual learning environments.

Essential Responsibilities:

Own the learning experience design of all George Fox Digital products and properties, ensuring a consistency of high quality student experiences throughout those products.

Manage the work of instructional designers (both staff and contractors) who work alongside subject matter experts in the creation of online course materials.

Communicate, organize, schedule as needed with faculty in order to ensure course content (video, template on the LMS, etc.) is completed according to specifications and on time.

Provide guidance to UX/UI, animation and video designers in the incorporation of rich media within digital course materials.

Maintain an advanced understanding of the George Fox student experience by collaborating with data analysts and marketing staff who survey student feedback. 

Proactively initiate substantive change in products to assure the maintenance of market positions for specific programs.

Requirements:

The director should demonstrate either substantive experience with learning and/or human-centered design or possess an advanced degree in design/learning design.

The director should have an understanding of pedagogical and/or andragogical principles that guide effective learning.

The director should have a working knowledge of core technologies that are deployed in the creation of online learning materials.

The director should have familiarity with and be equipped to guide user testing and review processes including the application of Quality Matters standards.

The director should demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to addressing accessibility issues with regards to online learning environments.
