Director of Intercultural Life

Reports to: Dean of Student Success and Equity

 

The Director of Intercultural Life is responsible for directing and implementing strategy to cultivate a campus climate that supports undergraduate students of color and contributes to their overall success and persistence to graduation. The Director of Intercultural Life functions as part of a team that is responsible for the overall strategic coordination of student success and university-wide retention efforts. Primary attention will be given to direct support services for students of color and implementing curriculum that promotes opportunities for all students to engage in their racial and ethnic identity development.

 

It is imperative that the Director recognizes the multiple constituents that exist within this work, which includes the racial/ethnic minority students, majority culture students, external community partnerships, and internal cross-departmental collaboration that support the diversity efforts on campus. Given the nature of our changing environments, the Director also needs to take into account both face-to-face and remote delivery platforms when designing programs and services.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provide leadership and oversight to the Mosaic Scholars Program

 

  1. Supervise a team of student interns responsible for the coordination and implementation of various events that advances cultural intelligence and racial identity development across campus.

 

  1. Provide leadership and on-going support to the university multicultural organizations

 

  1. Collaborate with the IRC administrative assistant in an effort to ensure oversight and coordination of the following:

 

  1. Develop support programs for first-generation college students of color in collaboration with the Dean of Student Success and Equity

 

  1. Work in collaboration with the Dean of Spiritual Life and associate campus pastors to create and implement leadership training and curriculum for the undergraduate student body that cultivates cultural intelligence, racial identity development, and advances a commitment to biblically-based racial reconciliation and justice

 

 

  1. Work in collaboration with the Office of Student Life to provide student leadership training and a high quality Welcome Weekend experience, with a particular focus on students of color and their families

 

  1. Work collaboratively as a member of university student success strategy team to examine and develop systems that promote persistence to graduation, specifically for students of color and first-generation college students

 

 

  1. Work collaboratively with the Dean of Student Success and Equity to represent Intercultural Life on various committees as appropriate

 

  1. Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.

 

 

  1. By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role

 

  1. Demonstrates awareness, respect and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people

 

 

  1. Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Success and Equity

 

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree required; Masters Degree in Higher Education, Student Development or other related field preferred
  2. 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience working with racial minority groups; 5-7 years preferred
  3. Strong computer skills and excellent organizational skills
  1. Ability to manage a number of different tasks concurrently.
  2. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to build networks.
  3. Spanish language proficiency desired.
  1. An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and being in living agreement with same.
  2. Commitment to an inclusive environment that values diversity, engages global concerns and connects culturally.
