Director for Human Sexuality Care Initiative

Purpose

The Human Sexuality Care Initiative (HSCI) aims to provide educational and programmatic opportunities to the George Fox community to deepen understanding of human sexuality as is represented in our theological and lifestyle statements. Through this initiative, there are three main goals; student care, campus programming, and continuing to build a healthy campus climate for the overall community. Primary attention will be given to supportive measures for LGBT+ identifying students on campus and creating educational opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of human sexuality and identity development.

The director plays a significant role in assisting the supportive measures surrounding LGBT+ identifying students on campus, as well as in the development of educational and programmatic initiatives surrounding the above mentioned goals. In addition, the director will lead various research endeavors for the university, including focus groups to gather necessary campus climate information, staying abreast of current findings and trends related to sexuality and gender identity, as well as playing an active role in interdepartmental collaboration and relationship building..

This is a 10-month (August-May) part-time (20-25 hours per week) position.

Characteristics and Skills:

  • Desire to learn and develop in relation to sexuality and gender topics
  • Strong relational skills, particularly mature self-awareness and empathy
  • Value the differences of individual perspectives and how perspectives can shift or change
  • Desire to treat all interactions with others with dignity and respect to foster inclusion
  • Ability to work well both independently and with others
  • Good research, planning and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Computer skills needed (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, ect.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend individual meetings with the Dean for Spiritual Life
  • Attend and actively participate in HSCI committee meetings on a monthly basis
  • Supervise student workers associated with the program
  • Partner with various campus groups to work towards common goals in caring for the Fox community. Such groups may include: Health and Counseling, Intercultural Resource Center, Residence Life, Commuter Life, Spiritual Life, student lead groups, and others
  • Spearhead focus groups on campus surrounding Title IX discussion topics
  • Support educational and programmatic goals within the HSCI
  • Assist in student care, including meeting with students, facilitating referrals and connecting individuals to appropriate resources
  • Assist with with research tasks for the university
  • Develop and maintains relationships with LGBT+ identifying students on campus in order to provide support

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Align with the university's position and lifestyle statements related to sexuality and gender identity
  • 3-5 years of experience working with college students or emerging adults
  • Proficiency in subject matter related to, and relevant work experience with sexual and gender identity issues
  • Ability to manage a number of different tasks concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Express clear empathy and understanding for others
  • Commitment to an inclusive environment that values working alongside and supporting those with diverse background
