Dean of Student Belonging and Equity/Title IX Coordinator

Position Overview:

The Dean of Student Belonging & Equity/Title IX Coordinator will serve as part of the Student Life leadership team and provide strategic vision and planning as it relates to student belonging and equity with a particular emphasis on marginalized and underrepresented students. The Dean will also serve as campus Title IX Coordinator for student situations and oversee university efforts in Title IX compliance and educational programming (along with the Executive Director of Human Resources/Title IX Coordinator for situations involving employees).

It is important that the Dean maintains a working knowledge of best practices in the areas of student belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion within a Christ-centered context as well as keeping current in their knowledge related to Title IX/sexual misconduct administration and compliance.


Essential Responsibilities:

  1. As a compassionate, engaged, and effective leader - work collaboratively across the Student Life division and Athletics in matters related to student belonging and equity.
  2. Using depth of knowledge, empathy, and experience - lead diversity and anti-racist efforts, training, and education for Student Life and Athletics in collaboration with the institutional Chief Diversity Officer.
  3. With understanding, integrity, and care - provide leadership, supervision, budget management, and oversight to the Intercultural Resource Center, human sexuality care initiative, Title IX/sexual misconduct process, and the office of commuter life. This includes supervision of three full-time and two part-time staff members.
  4. As a dedicated, humble, and trustworthy leader - develop, implement, and operationalize a Christ-centered George Fox missional vision and strategy for the care and support of vulnerable student populations that include, but are not limited to students of color, LGBTQ+ students, veterans, and first generation college students.
  5. Utilizing communication, problem-solving, and investigative skills - oversee and chair the Bias Incident Response Team and regularly update and maintain the bias incident response protocols and guidelines as needed. This includes reviewing and addressing systemic concerns as well as ensuring proper on-going documentation of bias incidents.
  6. Collaborate and contribute to the efforts of the Associate Provost for Academic Success/Chief Diversity Officer for the University.
  7. By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christan role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  8. Demonstrate awareness, respect and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political vies, expressions of faith, etc. and work well with a variety of people.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Title IX/Sexual Misconduct Specific Duties - Student Situations (working collaboratively with the Executive Director of Human Resources/Title IX Coordinator for situations involving employees)

  1. Lead institutional efforts on trauma-informed Title IX/sexual misconduct administration, compliance, and educational programming efforts geared toward students and student situations. This includes providing leadership and strategic development of the Sexual Misconduct CARE Team and processes.
  2. Oversee and coordinate the following:
    1. A through, timely, reliable, confidential, and impartial investigation of reports and complaints of sexual misconduct;
    2. A fair, timely, and equitable hearing process;
    3. Implementation of findings and resulting sanctions (if given) to ensure they are designed to stop sexual misconduct and prevent its recurrence;
    4. Proper documentation of complaint, supportive measures, investigation, adjudication, appeal (where applicable), and sanctions;
    5. Campus Advocate Program.
  3. Collaborate with leadership and campus constituencies to disseminate information, redesign processes, and manage investigative processes; collaborate and coordinate with compliance partners across the institution to support the University's overlapping compliance needs and responsibilities.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in higher education, student development, or a related field required; doctorate preferred.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years of related experience; 5-7 years of demonstrated increased leadership experience in a higher education setting preferred.
  3. High level of intercultural competence, a student-centered mindset, and experience working with undergraduate students.
  4. Ability to manage a number of different tasks concurrently.
  5. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to build networks.
  6. Excellent organizational skills.
  7. An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals and values, including a signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and being in living agreement with same.
  8. Commitment to an inclusive environment that values diversity, engages global concerns and connects culturally.
