Dean, College of Behavioral and Health Sciences

The Position: George Fox University invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences. The position is a 12-month administrative appointment to begin no later than July 1, 2019.

The College of Behavioral and Health Sciences is composed of multiple units, Undergraduate Psychology, Clinical Psychology (PsyD), Nursing (BSN and RN to BSN scheduled to begin in 2019), Social Work (BSW & MSW), Physical Therapy (DPT), Health and Human Performance (Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Health and PE Teaching), Physician Assistant (DMSc) scheduled to begin January 2021, and Athletic Training which will close in 2022. The College of Behavioral and Health Sciences is committed to providing high-quality programs that prepare students to care for the overall wellness of diverse individuals and groups by utilizing their expertise in the areas of physical, emotional and spiritual healing.

The CBHS is home to more than 50 full-time faculty members with six undergraduate majors serving more than 350 undergraduate students, and three graduate programs (MSW, PsyD, DPT) with combined enrollment of approximately 300 students.

Essential Responsibilities: The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences and is responsible for the following:

  Ensuring the effective operation of the College in support of the mission and goals of the University;

Working with faculty, staff, students, university constituents, and professional leaders to promote excellence in teaching, research, and community learning;

Serving as an innovative and dynamic advocate for the College and its programs among diverse groups of healthcare and community leaders, government, and with the general public;

Providing leadership to maintain multiple national professional accreditations, including: APA, CAATE, CAPTE, CCNE, and CSWE;

Serving as an engaged member of University leadership teams;

Managing the College's budgets, fiscal planning, and participating in external fundraising;

Promoting the research initiatives of the College;

Recruiting, supervising, developing, and evaluating faculty and staff; and

Articulating the importance of integrating faith and learning to all constituencies.

Qualifications:

Successful leadership experience.

Ability to create and implement a shared vision with faculty and staff and achieve outstanding results.

Earned doctorate appropriate to the disciplines of the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences and credentials suitable for a senior faculty appointment, with a record of accomplishment in teaching, scholarship, leadership, and service.

Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in a Christian environment, committed to the integration of faith and learning with the healthcare and behavioral sciences disciplines.

Appreciation of diversity and the ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, administrators, and students.

Commitment to professional development of faculty and staff.

Strong communication skills.

Ability to translate professional principles into the academic environment.

Preferred Experience:

Strategic leadership experience, including program planning, budget management and collegial leadership of professionals at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Successful experience in the academic world.

Connecting the external professional world to university programs and internships.

Managing acquisition of external funding that supports institutional goals.
