Computer Support Specialist

George Fox University's IT department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated team player to fill the role of Computer Support Specialist.


About the Job:

The Computer Support Specialist will combine an eager desire to help people with strong technical aptitude to provide hands-on computer and technical support to employees across the university. They will work to ensure that employees are equipped with tools needed to do their work and help them make the most of those resources.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Configuring, deploying and tracking all Windows and macOS computers. (40%)
  • Diagnosing and repairing software/hardware related problems on Windows and macOS computers. (25%)
  • Managing and updating computer builds and images. (10%)
  • Installing software and hardware on faculty, staff and lab computers (10%)
  • Assisting customers with technology issues on the phone, at Service Desk, or at their work location. (15%)
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A day in the life of this position:

The Computer Support Specialist will often have a variety of planned and unplanned work throughout their day. Deployments are scheduled for new computers and within the same day users will request help with hardware or software problems.


We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows, macOS and iOS hardware, and software systems.
  • The ability to extend strong customer service to a broad range of constituents.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern deployment and configuration tools for doing large-scale machine deployments.
  • A familiarity with application and desktop virtualization.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and configuring networks, servers and printers.
  • Manual dexterity needed to handle very small parts and tools.
  • A strong attention to detail along with the ability to develop and adhere to standardized processes.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes:

  • Experience with AWS AppStream.

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week: 40 hours (1.0 FTE) - Monday through Friday
  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements are those of a normal office environment. Must have the ability to lift more than 25 pounds and perform any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crouching, etc.
  • Supervisor: Director of Academic Computing
