Cheerleading Coach

George Fox University's Sports Marketing team seeks an energetic, passionate, and forward-thinking cheerleading coach to help take GFU Cheer to the next level. George Fox University cheerleaders are ambassadors of Bruin Athletics, and represent the vision, mission and values of the program at football and basketball games, as well as community events.

The cheerleading coach will oversee all aspects of Bruin cheerleading, including choreography, stunting, and tumbling. If you an experienced coach eager to lead a fast-growing team to the next level of excellence, this is the perfect role for you. 

DUTIES: 

• Be a vigilant presence and leader at team performances (football, men's and women's basketball games): including showing up early, coordinating pre-performance activities, determine participation criteria based on a fair yet skill based criteria, motivate and coach team throughout performance and conclude activities with a post-performance meeting to recap strengths and weaknesses.
• Schedule and conduct 2-3 weekly practice sessions for the squad to include functional, endurance and skill based training throughout football and basketball season.
• Schedule and conduct one weekly conditioning session as a team and hold team members accountable to additional training sessions outside of regular practice. Hold team members to high standards of athletic improvement.
• Enforce and maintain appropriate safety standards and procedures associated with the involvement in cheerleading. Maintain AACCAA Safety Certification and stay up-to-date with new cheerleading safety requirements, including concussion safety protocol. (As of 2018, GFU Cheer will participate in baseline concussion testing).
• Conduct a one week preseason training camp to be held the week prior to fall semester's start.
• Learn, teach, and choreograph (as necessary) all performance material for George Fox cheerleading team.
• Attend a monthly meeting with the Associate Director of Sports Marketing to discuss the progress and future plans of the team. Respond as needed for day-to-day needs.
• Pursue recruitment efforts at various high schools, cheer camps or other venues in an effort to recruit the best members for the Bruin cheer squad.
• Conduct tryouts for next year's team every April.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and being in living agreement with same.
• 3-5 years of high school or college cheerleading coaching experience.
• Willingness to maintain high standards of safety and strict adherence to safety protocol.
