POSITION OVERVIEW:

George Fox University seeks a dynamic and collaborative individual to coach students to recognize their God-given uniqueness, maximize their academic and experiential learning, graduate on time, and develop life-long career skills. This individual will join the IDEA Center, an innovative office providing outstanding undergraduate academic and career coaching on campus. This new office's mission is to "coach students to, Initiate the next steps toward their future goals, Discover their vocational calling, Engage in academic and experiential opportunities, so they Achieve exceptional life outcomes.

 

We are looking for someone with a demonstrated ability to coach students and collaborate with academic departments to ensure that the University achieves new and innovative retention, internship, and career goals.  If you are a positive person with an ability to push through barriers and have skills in creative problem-solving; if a position working on one of the university's top strategic initiatives appeals to you; and if you have a passion for seeing students achieve their academic and career goals, then we invite you to apply for this position.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide academic coaching to traditional undergraduate students, assisting them in setting educational goals, developing plans to accomplish those goals, and providing guidance to ensure completion of graduation requirements in a timely fashion.
  • Provide career coaching to traditional undergraduate students, assisting them in setting vocational goals and developing plans to accomplish those goals, and providing guidance to prepare for career success.
  • Help students connect who they are to their academic choices and future career plans.
  • Coach students to take full advantage of career development strategies and experiences by referring them to career preparation resources, Handshake and other job search engines, networking opportunities and events, and internships.
  • Stay current on career and hiring trends in your degree specialties.
  • Attend networking events with professionals in your degree areas.
  • Serve as liaison between IDEA Center and assigned academic departments to represent the goals and initiatives of the IDEA Center and facilitate academic department partnerships.
  • Update and maintain accurate student record information in university's integrated database; participate in new student orientations (Genesis events) to provide advising and registration information.
  • Implement communication strategies with current students to promote retention and facilitate progress toward graduation; communicate academic progress information to students; use student record information to inform student communications.
  • Teach career courses (optional) and career topics in the classroom, responding to faculty requests in your advising majors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in customer-focused environment; 2 years of providing support services to students from diverse backgrounds in a college setting with the focus of retention and graduation preferred; experience also preferred in student personnel, adult education or related fields.
  • Proficiency with technology and data entry (PeopleSoft).
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member to accomplish organizational and unit goals.
  • Coaching/counseling experience'demonstrated ability to assist people with setting goals, making plans for reaching those goals, and following through for goal attainment.
  • Solid organizational skills required'demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy; ability to understand and administer curricular requirements.
  • Flexibility and availability for some evening and weekend work, including university commencements.
