Campus Safety Officer

Purpose for the Position: This position is under general supervision; to provide protection, safeguarding, safety, and security of students, staff, faculty, guests, and property of George Fox University.  You will the Portland Center, and grounds; to observe, report and investigate incidents and suspicious activities, ensuring the security and safety of property and persons; and to perform related duties as assigned.  This is a physical security position

Must meet the physical requirements of the job including the ability to: climb multiple flights of stairs,  traverse different terrain such as trails, hills, uneven ground, and may be on your feet for up to 8 hours. Have the ability to work in various environmental conditions such as heat, wind, rain, and snow to perform common security functions and duties. (Pre-hire physical standards test must be performed)

Essential Responsibilities:

• Perform security patrols at the Portland Center Campus. Be a presence on campus to deter criminal behavior and build trust with all members and guests of the GFU community.
• Greet and direct visitors and potential students to the proper admissions or program areas as needed.
• Observe and report deficiencies at the Portland Center facilities using the proper work order protocol.
• Adjust access to card lock systems as needed for faculty specific to their needs
• Liaison between Tigard Police and Tualatin Valley Fire Departments.
• Protect property from theft, vandalism, trespassing, fire and accidents.
• Protect individuals and property, and preventing theft or misappropriation of any goods, money or other items of value.
• Control access to property and buildings on GFU.
• Investigate and take the appropriate lawful action as authorized by Campus Public Safety protocols on accidents, incidents, trespassing, suspicious activities, safety, and fire.
• Neutralize situations calmly with tact and common sense
• By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
• Provide any needed assistance to all members and guests of George Fox University ; i.e., escorts, jump-starts, and vehicle unlocks
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in written form; required documentation by writing reports.
• Maintain the professional standards of GFU Campus Public Safety by following the policies and procedures of the department.
• Obey the laws of the state of Oregon; and
• Abide by the DPSST Private Security Professional Code of Ethics in upholding professionalism and integrity of the industry.

Associated Duties: 

• Monitor video cameras when in office.
• PR with students and staff.
• Testify in court regarding an incident or emergency as needed
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• One year experience in private or campus security

• Basic law enforcement and security patrol principles and practices.
• Interpretations of federal, state, local laws and ordinances as applied to campus environment.
• Traffic and parking rules and regulations. Basic record keeping and report writing practices.
• High School diploma/GED
• Qualified to be certified under DPSST as Unarmed Security Professional.
• Available and willing to work evenings, nights, and weekends on occasion/as circumstances warrant.
• An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Statement of Community Responsibilities.

Other Requirements:

Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record; must be willing to work weekends, holidays and off-hour shifts and be willing to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions; must obtain first aid and CPR certificates.
