Associate Director of Seminary Masters Program

 JOB PURPOSE:

Contributes to oversight of seminary local and distance masters programs, from recruitment and student retention, academic advising and aspects of online course engagement

 ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Administrative Student Support: Works in close communication with the seminary admissions counselor on student recruitment and admissions. This includes phone, face to face, and Skype contacts with prospective students to answer questions and to promote for programs. Conducts interviews with all incoming students, including group and/or one-to-one interviews. Performs transcript evaluations for all prospective students and participates in assigning advanced standing. Creates individual course plans for all students, participates in advising for all first year students. Responsible for communication and on-boarding new students. Additionally, creates and manages comprehensive student database, advocates, and mentors and provides pastoral support for all stud.
  • Pastoral Support for Masters Students: Is responsible for fostering the 'be known' experience, both in the virtual community and the face to face community. This includes monitoring and participating in student directed groups (i.e. SemSisters ) both online and in person. Recruits, trains and provides oversight for community life coordinators and teaching assistants. Works with SPIL House to align the seminary's spiritual provisions with the greater university mission. Essential job duties described generally should not exceed ten (10). List all duties and show the estimated time spent on each duty. Percentages of time should total 100% of the time spent on essential job duties only. There is a separate section for "Other Job Duties."
  • Plans and manages seminary master's program events: Face-to-Face learning intensives, providing leadership for new student orientations, overseeing 'houses', and managing special dinners (in conjunction with the administrative assistant). These tasks includes managing event expenditures and related reports, and marketing events to students and alumni.
  • Develops and maintain external church relations outreach to local and global churches to develop mutually beneficial partnerships. Including but not limited to internships placements, sharing of spaces, denominational requirements, etc. Communicates with external constituents to establish networking relationships. This includes local churches, denominational leaders, and national networks.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

  • Represents the Seminary and MA programs at on/off-campus events to network with prospective students and instructors.
  • Provides assistance to faculty and adjuncts: Monitors course site activity logs and reports absences and missing students to the faculty on an established schedule. Assists students and faculty with technical problems in course sites.
  • Has comprehensive understanding of the curriculum and details of the course schedule, helps coordinate the face to face schedule and zoom sessions.
  • Oversees online interaction between faculty, adjuncts, staff, and students. Includes flagging students, checking online participation, providing faculty qualitative information to help them assign course grades. Assists adjuncts with online engagement.

Job Related Decision Making:

  • Student admissions, interviews and advising decisions. This directly impacts student matriculation rates, and is important in creating the 'be known' experience from the start of the program.
  • Decisions related to Masters Programs seminary events, orientations and course-related F2F learning intensives, including managing their respective budgets and marketing.
  • Decisions around how to best represent the seminary at conferences and in the Portland Seminary online social media channels.
  • Makes networking connections and relationships autonomously.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years pastoral experience
  • Proven relationship building skill's with leaders and other pastors in the community.
