University Advancement seeks a collaborative, mission-driven and results-oriented fundraiser to serve as the Associate Director of Development. An ideal candidate will have demonstrated success at raising funds by developing and implementing strategic solicitation fundraising plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institution goals and closing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Candidate will serve as Advancement's representative with the Athletics Department and Portland Seminary and will develop a strategy for engagement and philanthropy from alumni, parents, and friends.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as Advancement's representative with the Athletics Department and Portland Seminary. Be a liaison for Advancement staff in communicating assigned partner(s) priorities and updates.
  • Develop strategy for engagement and philanthropy for the Athletics Department and Portland Seminary in collaboration with the Executive Director for Development and Strategic Initiatives and appropriate university leadership.
  • Coordinate annual giving strategy for the Athletics Department and Portland Seminary in collaboration with the annual giving team.
  • Work with Alumni Relations, Parent and Family Relations, faculty, staff and volunteers to develop and execute strategies to engage current and prospective donors.
  • Discover, engage, and invite philanthropic gifts through ongoing personal contact and visits with donors and prospective donors. Conduct a minimum of 15 donor visits monthly.
  • Make a minimum of 15 major gift asks per year and solicit a minimum of 15 annual giving asks per year.
  • Meet minimum fundraising goals annually and minimum number of contacts monthly.
  • Manage a portfolio of a minimum of 120 prospects.
  • Regularly update the database to include contact notes and ensure proper data collection.
  • Develop donor-specific engagement strategies designed to initiate, renew, and upgrade gifts.
  • Produce timely contact reports that outline future engagement strategies after each donor, prospective donor, or sponsor interaction.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • Attend events, presentations, meetings and other appropriate gatherings.
  • Ensure that gifts are acknowledged, reports are shared and funding is allocated appropriately.
  • By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years successful work experience in higher education and/or advancement functions; or equivalent combination of university education and work experience.
  • Previous experience in building relationships with donors, making the ask and closing gifts at the President's Council Level ($1000+) and Major Gifts ($25,000+).
  • Proven experience in developing strategy to engage donor prospects.
  • Proven experience in coaching and/or working with academic partners to identify funding priorities, alignment with institutional goals and strategic planning.
  • Former student athlete or Seminary degree preferred.
  • Must have well-developed organizational, planning, prioritizing, administrative and presentation skills. Must be self-motivated and driven to the achievement of results. Must have the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at one time and in a busy environment.
  • Must have proven and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to connect with a wide spectrum of people. Must have proven experience in effectively contacting, answering queries of, and building relationships with donors, parents of students, and alumni as well as the regional business community.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, tact, confidentiality and initiative. Must be upbeat and a team player.

  • The Associate Director of Development may be required to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Local and national travel is required up to 50% of the time.
