Assistant Project Manager

Position Summary:


The Assistant Project Manager is an integral piece in the success of the Liberation Scholars program, a two-week introduction to the humanities, college life, and civics for intellectually curious Latina/o high school students from Woodburn, Oregon, created with funding from the Teagle Foundation. The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with the First Generation Student Success Coordinator and Project Manager (Liberation Scholars Program) and Principal Investigator in creating a safe, happy environment for the Liberation Mentors (college students who will serve as Residential Teaching Assistants) and Liberation Scholars (high school participants). In addition, the person who fills this role will oversee the male dorm.

Position Details

  • Temporary position that will include more than forty hours a week (July 12-31, 2021), $2100
  • Housing and most meals provided from July 12-30
  • Open until filled

Responsibilities

  1. Be present and assist with the implementation of the Liberation Scholars program, particularly co-curricular activities and residential life, including the orientation for Liberation Mentors (July 12-30, 2021)
  2. Act as main point-of-contact for Liberation Mentors and Scholars while serving on on-site duty
    1. Coordinate and alternate on-site supervision with the Project Manager
  3. Oversee the male dorm, including overnight
  4. Supervise four to five Liberation Mentors, college students who are Residential Teaching Assistants
  5. Provide mentorship to the college and high school students
  6. Communicate issues to the Project Manager and Principal Investigator as they arise
  7. Create a positive living environment that enhances student learning
  8. Full participation in mandatory Liberation Scholars events
  9. Give logistical support as needed. For example:
    1. Communicate with outside vendors (Bon Appetit, vehicle reservations, field trip points-of-contact, Woodburn High School)
    2. Collaborate with George Fox University faculty, staff, and alumni for program development
  10. Other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager and Principal Investigator

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  1. A bachelor's degree
  2. Minimum of 1 year of project management and/or residential life experience, preferred
  3. Ability to lead in a crisis; emergency and conflict management experience
  4. Proven ability to work collaboratively, innovate, and multi-task. Must be comfortable working independently, making decisions, and moving projects forward independently. A willingness to support fellow staff members at busy times.
  5. Exceptional planning and organizational skills
  6. Previous work with marginalized students, a student-centered mindset, and understanding of how racial minority status, ethnic minority status, and socio-economic status impact youth of color. With that, a passion to see first-generation students succeed.
  7. Experience mentoring young men, preferred
  8. Spanish literacy and fluency desirable
  9. Experience and effective use of Excel and the Google Office Suite
