Assistant Director of Athletic Recruiting

Purpose:

The Athletic Recruiter position exists to successfully recruit student-athletes to enroll and attend George Fox University. This entails developing and implementing student recruitment strategies to make GFU the Christian university of choice for prospective student athletes. The Athletic Recruiter effectively communicates GFU's most valued qualities as well as assists and guides coaches to more adequately fill out their rosters while attracting a higher quality of student-athlete.

The admissions office is the front-line of the University, responsible for bringing in each new class and the main revenue generating office on campus. As a front facing office, we are responsible for sharing the mission of GFU with others and making sure the value of GFU is evident. The position of Assistant Director of Athletic Recruiting is tasked with bringing in prospective student-athletes and assisting coaches to fill their rosters. This role shares a large responsibility for the success of UG admissions and meeting enrollment goals due to the nature of athletics being a catalyst for enrollment needs each year.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Communicating the value of a George Fox education.
  • Moving students efficiently through the admissions process.
  • Assisting coaches to adequately fill their roster.

Associated Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the leadership of the admissions office by providing input to policy and decisions.

  • Act as the athletic liaison between the admissions office and all other offices.
  • Supervise an admissions intern to accomplish core Assist. Director of Athletic Recruiting responsibilities.

  • Assist and guide each of the coaches in developing recruiting strategies to more adequately fill out their rosters and to attract a higher quality of athlete.
  • Review applications and evaluate students for admissibility.
  • Plan and implement ongoing events for recruits (Game Day Visits, Bruin Recruitment Day, Spring Football visits, and Commitment Day)
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of admission information with during various campus events.
  • Answer questions, inquiries or requests from students or parents in person, by phone or in writing regarding admissions and athletic recruiting processes.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Previous admission/marketing experienced preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills required.
  • High level of initiative, motivation, and attention to detail to work in a goal-oriented environment.
  • Ability, willingness and availability to travel, including by car and airplane. Must have a valid Oregon driver license.
  • Commitment to issues of ethnic and gender diversity and the ability to speak to changing demographics in the country and the effect it has on the recruitment of students. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to lift and transport materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Statement of Community Responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
