Access Services Specialist

Purpose of the Position: To implement procedures and assist in maintaining workflows in circulation and interlibrary loan, especially during evening and weekend hours.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provide outstanding customer service to all library patrons.
  2. Serve patrons by answering or referring questions, answering phones, and resolving or reporting issues.
  3. Perform all library circulation services and other special projects and duties as assigned.
  4. Train and supervise evening and weekend student employees in the circulation area.
  5. Assist with Interlibrary Loan and Summit resource sharing (Orbis Cascade Alliance) processes and procedures.
  6. Oversee opening and closing procedures.
  7. Support research librarians by working on projects (such as updating libguides)
  8. Maintain inventory of library supplies.
  9. Communicate effectively and courteously with others.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. One year of library or other relevant experience.
  2. Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, basic Excel) and its Google equivalents. Experience with library automation systems a plus.
  3. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to work at a computer for an extended period of time.
  4. Ability to relate effectively with the library's public and supervise student employees.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to work independently with a high level of dependability.
  7. An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with George Fox University's Statement of Faith and Statement of Community Responsibilities.
  8. By actions, words and lifestyle, is a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role. Candidates should value an environment that reflects the diversity of God's kingdom.

Additional Information:

  • The person in this position typically works 40 hours per week from August 15 to May 15, with summers off.
  • The person in this position provides essential supervisory coverage Sunday through Thursday evenings (1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.). Schedule changes to weekday daytime hours during Christmas Break and Spring Break.
  • Position will remain open until filled.
