George Fox University is seeking a relationally focused, task oriented, and values driven Director of Residence Life. This is a 12-month position that provides strategic direction and oversight of the entire residence life program including a myriad of intentional efforts to enhance student success. The director plays a critical role within the residential community as a co-curricular educator for professional staff, student staff, and residential students in helping to deliver our Be Known Promise to all students at George Fox.

The following is designed to give a general overview of the Director of Residence position roles and responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the Be Known promise to students, employees, and others on a daily basis.
  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership for the vision and programming for the Residence Life department. This includes the recruitment, hiring, training, and development of all professional staff, including the associate director(s) of residence life, area coordinators, administrative support, as well as all student staff.
  • Be approachable, relational, and demonstrate a willingness to journey with Area Coordinators (ACs), Graduate Assistants (GAs), Assistant Area Coordinators (AACs), Resident Assistants (RAs), and students.
  • Provide experiences, training, and information to professional and student staff which will promote their identity, leadership and faith development, as well as interpersonal competencies.
  • Collaborate with the dean of students and associate dean of students to facilitate the community accountability process as it relates to the lifestyle standards and community policies, including the implementation, investigation, adjudication, and hearing of incidents.
  • Serve as a campus investigator in undergraduate student incidents involving Title IX, sexual misconduct, and sexual harassment.
  • Collaborate with dean of students and associate dean of students to provide intervention, support, and response to student emergencies.

Associated Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with associate dean of students and director of university housing to develop and implement appropriate policies and procedures in regards to Covid-19.
  • Develop annual budget strategies for the Residence Life department.
  • Attend and participate in weekly Residence Life orientations, training sessions, and meetings.
  • Respond to violations of lifestyle standards, community policies, and other aspects of being a member of the George Fox community.
  • Maintain on-call responsibilities during weekends and evenings as necessary.
  • Initiate and follow appropriate institutional crisis intervention responses and processes in a timely manner.
  • Serve on university committees as appropriate, such as the Student Support Network (SSN).
  • Collaborate with the associate dean of students to develop relationships with city agencies (Police department, Fire department, school district, etc.).
  • Develop intentional relationships to support other departments and enhance the student experience (Spiritual Life, Campus Public Safety, HCC, Intercultural Life, IDEA center, Athletics, Honors program).
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrates awareness, respect and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related field is required.
  • 3-5 years in residence life or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate will possess these strengths: communication, honesty, integrity, relational aptitude, interpersonal skills, problem solving, organizational and administrative skills, dependability, initiative (self-starter), flexibility, remaining calm in high pressure situations, forward thinking, envisioning big picture, and detail oriented.
  • Strong mediation and confrontation skills and experience.
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills and experience.
  • Previous successful budget management experience preferred.
