Job Purpose

The Assistant Director and Career & Internship Coach manages the overall process of filtering internship and job opportunities for students to connect to the world of work by identifying experiential opportunities in specific fields of study. Additionally this person works with the IDEA Center team to increase student participation in internships and summer jobs. The assistant director is responsible for interacting with recruiters, alumni, human resource leaders to better understand the industries and hiring practices. As Career and Internship Coach, this person is responsible for supporting current programs and creating new programs for George Fox undergraduates that will engage each student to create and implement an effective career plan. An important part of the position is to oversee graduate assistants and peer coaches who are career specialists that help students with resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn. Additional responsibilities include, coaching students, teaching a career course, connecting to faculty, and presenting in the classroom.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Broaden and communicate understanding of industry trends and application best practices through recruiters and alumni connections.
  • Develop, plan and execute career focused programs and workshops related to the process of career planning and network with faculty to to facilitate in-class presentations.
  • Manage process of filtering opportunities for students to connect to the world of work by indemnifying experiential opportunities in specific fields of student.
  • Work with IDEA center team to increase student participation in internships, summer jobs, and other experiential activities and career events.
  • Supervise graduate students and peer coaches to coach students in the development of resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, networking, job search, and interviewing.
  • Teach CPAS (Career Planning & Academic Success) course(s) at the Newberg campus.

Associated Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation and update of content that provides Career Planning resources.
  • Coach students in grad school application resources, job search, and general career pathway conversations.
  • Attend networking events with professionals in your field.
  • Facilitate a weekly meeting with CAP Coaches to strategize ideas for improved career services and events.

Assigned Processes

  • Hiring, training, and supervising 2 grad assistants and 4 peer coaches to successfully facilitate 800 appointments.
  • Oversee student workers who are responsible for screening internships and jobs on Handshake.
  • Communicate career events and experiential opportunities to the marketing team.
  • Schedule and assign faculty requests for classroom presentations.
  • Track appointment, student participation, and internships for reporting purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full time position, Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 3-4 years experience Required
