Position Overview:  The Assistant Men's and Women's Cross Country and Distance Coach will assist in coordinating all aspects of George Fox University Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Distance activities; including coaching, recruiting, organizing and planning both practice and competition strategies, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, team management and administration.

Essential Responsibilities | Estimated Percentage of Time:

  • Scheduling and conducting practice/training sessions. | 30%
  • Schedule competitions, arrange for travel, hotel and meals, and coach student-athletes. | 30%
  • Assist in recruiting athletically and academically qualified student athletes. | 30%
  • Handle all program administrative functions, including but not limited to: NCAA eligibility, communication with sports marketing, public relations, and departmental meetings and paperwork. Maintaining NCAA, NWC and George Fox regulations | 4%
  • Assist in budget preparation and management; as well as fund-raising. | 4%
  • Perform other duties assigned by the athletic director, associate athletic director, or the Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country. | 2%

Associated Responsibilities

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations. Conducts program within stated philosophy and established guidelines set forth by George Fox University, NCAA Division III and the Northwest Conference.
  • Articulate the mission of the George Fox University athletic program in ways that align with the "Be Known" vision of the University. Support a positive student-athlete experience, which is reflected by both high retention and graduation rates among recruited student-athletes.
  • Model a highly relational Christian witness to the students and employees of the University.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Demonstrated Cross Country and Distance Coaching experience.
  • An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and being in living agreement with same.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.
