Position Overview:

The Assistant Director of Intercultural Life supports the Director in facilitating and promoting cultural awareness across campus while providing specific support to the university's students of ethnic minority background. Primary attention will be given to event planning, coordination of the Mosaic Scholars Program and collaboration with the Cultural Clubs. It is imperative that the Assistant Director recognizes the multiple constituents that exist within this work, which includes ethnic minority students, majority culture students and external community partnerships that support the diversity efforts on campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Administer the Mosaic Scholars Program in collaboration with the Director. a. Collaborate with the Cohort Advisors to facilitate monthly meetings for each class of Scholars. b. Facilitate two All-Scholar Meetings each semester. c. Administer the accountability process for scholarship requirements. d. Coordinate the Act Six Phase III Selection process and the Multicultural Leadership Scholarship application process.
  • Supervise a team of student interns responsible for the coordination and implementation of various events that advance cultural intelligence across campus. a. Meet weekly with individual student interns.b. Hold students accountable and serve as a resource for budgeting and fiscal management. c. Intentionally invest in the personal and professional development of student interns. d. Provide staff presence at events sponsored by the Office of Intercultural Life.
  • Work collaboratively with the Associated Student Community (ASC) to support Multicultural Clubs.a. Work collaboratively with the Director to provide leadership training in August. b. Meet monthly with club presidents c. Collaborate with clubs to coordinate heritage month activities 
  • Work in collaboration with the Director to create and implement leadership training and curriculum for the student body that cultivates cultural intelligence and advances a commitment to biblically-based racial reconciliation and justice.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Student Involvement to plan and coordinate Welcome Weekend events that highlight the diverse community at George Fox University.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrate awareness, respect and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and work well with a variety of people.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Masters Degree in Higher Education, Student Development or other related field preferred
  • Strong computer skills and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage a number of different tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to build networks.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and being in living agreement with same.
  • Commitment to an inclusive environment that values diversity, engages global concerns and connects culturally.
